🌊 Principles

LankaSwell is a small independent project.
These principles guide how it is built and why it exists.

1. The ocean is public

LankaSwell does not create surf spots or expose secret locations. The project simply shows real-time ocean conditions at places that already exist and are publicly accessible.

2. Transparency over hype

The goal is not to exaggerate conditions or artificially attract crowds. The goal is simple: help people understand what the ocean is doing before they enter the water.

3. Built for surfers, travelers, and locals

LankaSwell exists to make surf conditions more visible and accessible in Sri Lanka while supporting the local surf ecosystem around the island.

4. Always free

LankaSwell is free to use and aims to remain that way. Donations simply help support hosting, maintenance, internet, electricity, and future cameras.

5. Independent by design

There is no large company, investor pressure, or corporate ownership behind LankaSwell. The project is built slowly and independently, one camera at a time.

6. Privacy is respected

LankaSwell is a live-only system. No video or audio is ever recorded, stored, archived, or replayed.

Streams are transmitted in real time only. No media files are owned or retained by this project.

7. Community over control

Surf culture is local, social, and built around respect. LankaSwell aims to contribute useful information to the community — not replace it.
